Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (Robert Pirsig)

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

by Robert Pirsig

An analysis of the concept of quality is the main theme of the book. Again a philisophical travelogue provides the format for the books structure. I read this book quite a while ago among the nuggets of thought the one that stood out the most was “quality is something that happens between the subject and the object – it cannot happen without both being there”.

Pirsig is a hugely engaging writer and is sometimes unfairly lumped in with the other counter-culture writers of the 60’s and 70’s.
